When you sign up or use our services, we may collect personal information such as your name, email address, and payment details.

We collect data on how you use our app, including interactions, preferences, and other activities to improve our services.

If you use our email marketing features, we collect the content of your communications, including email addresses, subject lines, and email content.

If you use our WhatsApp features, we process WhatsApp phone numbers, profile names, message content, and delivery and read statuses of messages sent or received through Briefs. If you connect a WhatsApp Business account, we also store the account and phone number IDs and the access token Meta issues to us. See section 4 for details.

We share data only with service providers that help us run Briefs, and only for that purpose: Meta Platforms (WhatsApp Business Platform) for WhatsApp messaging; Amazon Web Services (SES) and Mailgun for email delivery; PayPal and Polar for payments; and AI providers (OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and DeepSeek) when you choose to use AI-assisted features. We do not sell your personal data.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure.

When you connect WhatsApp through Meta's Embedded Signup, Meta grants Briefs permission to manage your WhatsApp Business account and send and receive messages on your behalf. We use this access only to deliver your newsletters, process subscribe and unsubscribe requests, show your inbox and report delivery statistics. We never use it for advertising or share it with other customers.

People receive WhatsApp newsletters only after opting in by messaging and choosing a profile. Replying STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE opts them out straight away. We keep their phone number, name and subscription status so that publishers can manage their list.

You can disconnect WhatsApp from your settings at any time, which deletes the stored access token. Message data is kept while your account is active. To delete your account and associated WhatsApp or Meta data, follow our data deletion instructions.

Briefcast is a desktop app that works on your own computer. Your recordings, videos, documents, whiteboards, annotations and settings are saved on your device and are not sent to us. Captions, dictation and audio cleanup run on your computer too. You do not need a Briefs account to use Briefcast.

Unless you turn it off, Briefcast sends us anonymous usage statistics and crash reports so we can see which features are used and fix problems. Usage statistics record events such as the app starting, a recording starting or finishing (with its length, recording type and file format) and captions being generated (with the chosen language). Each event also includes the app version, your operating system and a random identifier created by Briefcast on your computer. The identifier lets us count how many people use Briefcast and whether they keep using it. It is not linked to your name, email address, Briefs account or anything else about you. It is deleted when you turn usage statistics off, and a new one is created if you turn them back on. Crash reports contain the error message, technical details of where in the app it happened, the app version and basic details about your computer, such as its operating system and processor type. Before a crash report is sent, your user folder is removed from any file paths in it, so your Windows user name is not sent.

We never collect your file names, file contents, recordings, documents or anything you type.

You can turn this off at any time in Briefcast under Settings → Privacy. It takes effect immediately and nothing more is sent.

Usage statistics are processed by PostHog and crash reports by Sentry, on our behalf, and both are set not to store your IP address. To check for updates, Briefcast contacts GitHub, where new versions are published; updates are digitally signed, and Briefcast refuses any that we did not sign. The first time you use captions or dictation, Briefcast downloads the speech-recognition model from Hugging Face, and the first time you use voice and music separation it downloads that engine from Hugging Face and GitHub. Like any internet connection, these services can see your computer's IP address when Briefcast contacts them.

When you download Briefcast from our website, we record the date, the version downloaded, the website you came from and an approximate country. We do not store your IP address.
