Click the camera icon in the bottom-right of the Briefcast window to take a screenshot.
The screenshot picker
Briefcast hides itself and freezes your screen at that moment, so menus and tooltips stay put while you choose what to capture:
- Drag to capture an area.
- Click a window to capture just that window. The window under the pointer is highlighted; you can also press Enter to capture the highlighted one.
- Screen: switch to this mode, then click a monitor to capture the whole screen.
Before capturing, the picker's toolbar lets you choose:
- PNG or JPG: PNG keeps text perfectly sharp; JPG makes smaller files for photos.
- Copy: also copies the screenshot to the clipboard, ready to paste into a chat, an email or a document.
Press Esc, or click Cancel, to stop without capturing.
Screenshots are saved to your Briefcast folder with names like Screenshot 2026-10-06 at 21.38.19. They appear in the library under Image, where you can open them in the image editor to add arrows, highlights or blur.
Screenshot from Screen Options
If the picker can't open on your system, Briefcast falls back to the Screen Options window, set to Screenshot. Choose Full screen, a monitor or a window, and take the shot.
When you choose a window this way, a small Screenshot prompt appears: bring the window you want to the front yourself (click it), then confirm. Windows doesn't let one app reliably bring another app's window forward, so this step guarantees the right window is captured.
Tips
- To annotate a screenshot right away, open it from the library and use the image editor; its Blur tool hides passwords, emails and faces.
- Use JPG for screenshots of photos or videos, and PNG for anything with text.
